This page contains the locations of the Collection Chests that appear in Hogwarts Castle, and how to find and unlock them, including which spells or resources you will need. Collection Chests can either give random wand handle cosmetics or conjuration recipes for the Room of Requirement, and 35 of them can be found in Hogwarts Castle alone.

Shortly after starting your academia in Hogwarts and joining one of the four houses, you'll be able to start finding chests stashed in various locations of the castle. Some are right out in the open, but many are hiding behind Arithmancy Puzzle Doors or other Hogwarts Secrets that takes some knowledge (and sometimes the right spell) to unlock. Finally, there are two chests that require you to complete the most complex puzzle rooms -- for that see How to Solve Depulso Puzzle Rooms. This guide applies to all versions of Hogwarts Legacy, including the original PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Hogwarts Legacy, as well as the Nintendo Switch version.

Note: post-release patches have changed the number of chests in the Astronomy Wing from six to five and increased the Library Annex section to nine.

There are five Collection Chests found in The Astronomy Wing section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts Astronomy Wing Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

This chest does not require any special techniques to reach - only knowing where to explore. It can be found in the Defense Against Dark Arts Tower in the Astronomy Wing, found all the way up on the top floor in Professor Fig’s Classroom, across the hall from the Floo Flame. You can find it stashed in the left corner of the room opposite the entrance to his office.

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

You can locate this Collection Chest only after you have gained the level 2 Alohom*ora Spell, which will require you to hand in more Demiguise Moons to Mr. Moon.

Head to the main floor of the Defence Against Dark Arts Tower, and look in the right corner by a staircase for a level 2 locked door with a very chatty gargoyle who guards the entrance.

Unlock the door and you'll find a lounge and storeroom that holds an old Boggart wardrobe. Here you'll also find a Collection Chest on a table in the middle, which holds another wand handle cosmetic.

Hogwarts Astronomy Wing Collection Chest 3

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you’ll need the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

It’s located in the Defence Against Dark Arts Tower, on a higher floor where Professor Ronen teaches Charms. In fact, it’s just around the corner from the Charms Classroom Floo Flame. Here you’ll find a? and?? block on either side of the door. To solve the puzzle door, enter (2) and (7) on the? and?? blocks to open the door.

Inside you’ll find a random chest, and a random Conjuration recipe.

Hogwarts Astronomy Wing Collection Chest 4

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

You can find this Collection Chest only after you have gained the Alohom*ora Spell, which is taught to you by Groundskeeper Moon after completing the First Trial. Once you have it, travel to Professor Ronen’s Charm’s Classroom by using the Floo Flame, and look for a small stairway in his classroom with a level 1 locked door.

Unlock it using Alohom*ora, then climb the stairwell in his office to a rooftop area, which holds a Collection Chest - as well as a level 2 locked door promising more treasures.

Hogwarts Astronomy Wing Collection Chest 5

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

You can locate this Collection Chest only after you have gained the level 2 Alohom*ora Spell, which will require you to hand in more Demiguise Moons to Mr. Moon.

Once you have the level 2 spell, travel through the Bell Tower Wing and down the stairs of the North Hall into the Dungeons. Once down in the depths, take the long hallway at the bottom to find a level 2 locked door flanked by stacks of cauldrons.

Inside will be the Alchemy Classroom, and in the corner of this room, you can find a Collection Chest with a random wand handle cosmetic.

There are 6 Collection Chests found in The Bell Tower Wing section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts Belltower Wing Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest does not require any special techniques to reach - only knowing where to explore, and is one of three collection chests located in the upper Belltower area.

Starting at the Belltower Courtyard Floo Flame, look for a small staircase at the south end of the room to climb up the belltower, through narrow stairs and past an Eye Chest.

Once you reach the musical room, look for another small stairway in the far back East side of the room, and continue to climb the belltower past an assortment of bells in the rafters, until you reach a door.

Exit out onto the belltower balcony, and look along the pathway for a small chest that holds the collection item.

Hogwarts Belltower Wing Collection Chest 2 and 3

These chests do not require any special techniques to reach - only knowing where to explore, and are two of three collection chests located in the upper Belltower area.

Starting at the Belltower Courtyard Floo Flame, look for a small staircase at the south end of the room to climb up the belltower, through narrow stairs and past an Eye Chest.

Once you reach the musical room, look for another small stairway in the far back East side of the room, and continue to climb the belltower past an assortment of bells in the rafters, until you reach a door. Exit out onto the belltower balcony, and look along for a frog statue in one corner.

Interacting with it will transport you to the adjacent belltower balcony. Here you will find not one but two Collection Chests, one of which contains the wand handle, and the other a random conjuration recipe.

Hogwarts Belltower Wing Collection Chest 4

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. However, you’ll first have to unlock the Alohom*ora spell to bypass locked doors, which can be gained after completing The First Trial quest.

Once you have the spell, head to the top floor of the North Hall, which can be reached by traveling south from the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame. Unlock the level 1 locked door at the top floor, and beyond you’ll find an old passage with an Arithmancy Door, and a? and?? block on each side.

Using the Arithmancy Study Guide (or numbering the magical creatures 0-9), you can deduce the missing numbers. Enter (6) and (3) in the? and?? blocks to unlock the puzzle door. Inside you’ll find a few chests, plus the Conjuration Recipe.

Hogwarts Belltower Wing Collection Chest 5

You can locate this Collection Chest only after you have gained the level 2 Alohom*ora Spell, which will require you to hand in more Demiguise Moons to Mr. Moon.

Out in the Bell Tower Wing Courtyard of the Hogwarts Grounds, travel west across the courtyard towards the main rampart gatehouse, and look to the right to find a level 2 locked door.

Inside you'll find Groundskeeper Mr. Moon's home, which includes various notes and treasure chests - but also a Collection Chest holding a wand handle cosmetic.

Hogwarts Belltower Wing Collection Chest 6

The last Collection Chest is hidden in the Depulso Puzzle Room 2. You need to have learned the spell Depulso from Professor Sharp's Assignment 1 and completed the The Hall Of Herodiana side quest.

To find the second Depulso Puzzle Room, fast-travel to the Transfiguration Classroom in the Astronomy Wing. The room is located in the Egyptian section that you may have already stumbled upon. Head through this door near the floo flame:

Inside, turn left and open this small door.

Top open Depulso Puzzle Room 2, use Depulso on the brass opening mechanism on the marble wall.

The chest is the reward for solving a series of complex block puzzles.

There are 7 Collection Chests found in The Grand Staircase section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts Grand Staircase Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you may want the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

It can be found at the edge of the Reception Hall where it meets the Grand Staircase, on the landing right above the Grand Staircase Floo Flame. However, you’ll notice one of the? blocks are next to the puzzle door, while the other?? block is next to the Floo Flame and the staircase down to the Hufflepuff common room.

Using the study guide, enter (0) and (5) for the? and?? blocks to unlock the door. Inside is a small chamber that holds a regular chest, and a Conjuration recipe chest.

Hogwarts Grand Staircase Collection Chest 2

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you may want the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

This door can be found at the spiral staircase up to the Ravenclaw Tower common room, which is just Northwest of the Floo Flame for the Ravenclaw Tower. To the right of the door is a?? block, while the? block is hiding back on the opposite wall from the door.

Using the study guide, enter (4) and (5) for the? and?? blocks to unlock the door. Inside is a small chamber that holds a regular chest, and a Conjuration recipe chest.

Hogwarts Grand Staircase Collection Chest 3

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you may want the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

This door can be found halfway up the Grand Staircase from the Ravenclaw Tower Floo Flame going up towards the Trophy Room at the top, and you’ll find the door along the West wall. The? block can be found a bit further up the stairs along the wall, while the?? block is on the central staircase pillar opposite the door.

Using the study guide, enter (6) and (7) for the? and?? blocks to unlock the door. Inside is a small chamber that holds a regular chest, and a Conjuration recipe chest.

There are 3 Collection Chests found in The Great Hall section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts Great Hall Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you may want the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

It can be found in the Northeast corner of the Great Hall dining area, down a small hallway on the far side from the Floo Flame. Note the? and?? blocks on the walls on either side. Using the study guide, enter (8) and (3) for the? and?? blocks to unlock the door.

Inside is a small chamber that holds a regular chest, and a Conjuration recipe chest.

Hogwarts Great Hall Collection Chest 2

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

You can find this hidden Collection Chest in the Hogwarts Kitchen which is located off the cellar below the Great Hall via the small staircase by the Grand Staircase Floo Flame.

Tickle the Pear Painting by the entrance to the cellar to find the secret door to the kitchen, and head to the back of the kitchen room to find a small chest holding a wand handle.

Hogwarts Great Hall Collection Chest 3

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

You can find this hidden Collection Chest past a locked door in the Great Hall Dining Room, which will require you to learn the Alohom*ora spell from Groundskeeper Moon. He’ll teach it to you after you’ve completed The First Trial main quest.

Head towards the front of the Dining Hall where the professor’s sit and look to the right to find a small locked door. Inside will be a chest you can loot, as well as a Demiguise Statue!

There are 8 Collection Chests found in The Library Annex section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest is likely the first of many you can find by solving the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. This is because this is the only door that has the cipher you need to solve the rest located in a nearby chest.

To find it, head to the North side of the Viaduct Entrance in the Library Annex and climb the spiral staircase to the Divination Floo Flame. From here, head out onto a wooden walkway above the Viaduct Entrance, and follow the catwalk to an Arithmancy Door.

Inspect the nearby blue chest to find a cipher that shows each of the animal symbols and their corresponding number. To solve it, you need to select animals for the? and?? blocks on the wall that can be added to the other numbers and symbols to equal the circled number in the middle. This particular puzzle requires (4) and (3). Open the door with the right symbols, and you’ll find the collection chest on the other side - plus a path to the Arithmancy Class with more doors.

This chest is likely the one of the first of many you can find by solving the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. This is because it's located behind the first Arithmancy Door that has the cipher you need to solve the rest located in a nearby chest.

This chest is likely the one of the first of many you can find by solving the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. This is because it's located behind the first Arithmancy Door that has the cipher you need to solve the rest located in a nearby chest.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 4

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

This chest is one that you can find simply by progressing the main story, as it’s hard to miss.

However, it is located in the Restricted Section of the Library, which you can only gain access to when undertaking a main quest with Sebastian Sallow. After sneaking down to the lower floors past the ghosts, you’ll enter a storage room, and the chests can be found down the stairs in a far corner of the room.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 5 and 6

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic, Conjuration Recipe

Two chests can be found under the large Viaduct Bridge connecting the Library Annex exterior to the Great Hall and Entrance Hall, but you’ll need the Incendio Spell to unlock this Hogwarts Secret.

On the large bridge, you should notice four large braziers (one of which is lit), and each has a large icon in front of it, as well as roman numeral that can be swapped by interacting with the brazier.

On the northwest Library Annex side of the bridge, look along the ground for a puzzle solution. It depicts each of the four symbols found on the braziers, and a roman numeral next to it. This will be your guide. You need to go to each brazier and interact with it until it has the right number, which will only become interactive after you ignite it with the Incendio spell:

• East Brazier - 1
• West Brazier - 2
• South Brazier - 3
• North Brazier - 4

Once all have been correctly numbered and ignited, the puzzle on the floor will open to reveal a ladder down below the bridge. Here you’ll find an assortment of chests, which include a Wand Cosmetic, Conjuration Recipe, and Legendary Chest.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 7

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This Collection Chest can be found through an Arithmancy Door, located can in the Long Gallery, a very long hallway connecting two locked doors - one below the Potions Classroom in the Library Annex, and one right through the giant doors at the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame.

Once in the Long Gallery, look to the side of the door to the Bell Tower to find an Arithmancy Puzzle Door. Using the 0-9 animal to number clues against the? and?? blocks, solve the equations and enter (2) and (1) on the? and?? blocks to open the door. Inside will be Portrait with a Field Guide Page, and in the back is the Collection Chest.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 8

The eighth Library Annex Collection Chest is found in the first Depulso Puzzle Room near the Library Annex's Potions Classroom floo flame. To get to it, go through the nearby door, head left, and down the stairs. You then need to unlock a Level 1 door at the end of the hallway and gain access to the Depulso Room.

You will need to have completed the side quest The Hall Of Herodiana first.

Getting this chest is a bit more involved, as it requires you to solve a one-room block puzzle. By collecting the room's three chests, you will make the hidden Collection Chest appear near the entrance.

Hogwarts Library Annex Collection Chest 9

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. Because of this, you’ll need the study guide cipher to solve the door puzzle and get to the nearby chest.

Head down from the Central Hall Floo Flame to the main fountain, and look to the right of the Southern door for an Arithmancy Puzzle Door. Note the? and?? blocks on the wall next to it, and on the balcony above. Using the study guide, enter (8) and (3) for the? and?? blocks to unlock the door.

Inside will be a random chest as well as a Conjuration recipe chest.

There are 5 Collection Chests found in The South Wing section of Hogwarts, ranging from simple locations to Arithmancy Puzzle Doors and Secrets.

Hogwarts South Wing Collection Chest 1

• Reward: Wand Handle Cosmetic

This chest does not require any special techniques to reach - only knowing where to look and what to interact with. Enter the base of the Gryffindor Tower, which you can do by going North across the small bridge from the Clockwork Courtyard Floo Flame.

Once in the building, head right up the stairs and past the assortment of musical portraits until you reach a spiral staircase. There is a frog statue at the base of the stairwell that you can interact with, which will instantly teleport you to a different room.

Look for a chest on a table in this room to gain a new cosmetic Wand Handle, and exit the far door to fall back down into the hallways with musical portraits.

Hogwarts South Wing Collection Chest 2

• Reward: Conjuration Recipe

This chest can be found by solving one of the Arithmancy Doors located all over Hogwarts. However, you’ll first have to unlock the Alohom*ora spell to bypass locked doors, which can be gained after completing The First Trial quest.

After completing Mr. Moon’s quest and gaining access to the Faculty Tower, climb up to the second floor and you’ll find the Arithmancy Door overlooking the South Wing hall below, with a? and?? block on either side. Use the 0-9 Arithmancy Study Guide to solve the puzzle, and enter (0) and (9) on the? and?? blocks to gain entry.

On the other side is a room with a Conjuration Recipe chest, as well as another chest to loot.
